Premiered in 2012 by the Orchestre National de Lyon and the company Et si c’était vrai…, Romeo and Juliet brings together theatre, music and the comic strip. In the middle of the orchestra, at full strength, the actors will perform Shakespeare’s play in a revised – but faithful – version, dialoguing with the power and extraordinary richness of Prokofiev’s music. Taken from the ballet which he wrote in 1935, the suites resume all its main themes. With its psychological portraits of the characters or descriptions of the dramatic events, the music expresses in turn the love of Romeo and Juliet or the violence between the Montagues and Capulets.Drawings by Efix, author of comic strip books, will be projected onto a large screen behind the orchestra and the actors, in a magnificent transposition of the scene of the drama to Lyon. The magic of music, text and illustration will come together to serve the most famous live story in the world.
