Orchestre Démos Lyon Métropole
Démos is a socially-oriented musical and orchestral outreach programme initiated and coordinated over the past 10 years by the Cité de la musique-Philharmonie de Paris. It is designed for children between the ages of 7 and 12, living in the municipalities of Bron, Décines-Charpieu, Givors, Lyon, Saint-Genis-Laval, Villeurbanne and Vaulx-en-Velin, and who have never learnt to play music.
5 municipalities, 120 children, 3 years
The first Orchestre Démos Lyon Métropole was made up of eight groups of children from the municipalities of Bron, Décines, Givors, Lyon and Vaulx-en-Velin.
In June 2018 and 2019, the children and the conductor who trained them, Maxime Tortelier, performed on the stage of the Lyon Auditorium to present their work over the past year to the audience. In June 2020, they would normally have performed on the prestigious stage of the Philharmonie de Paris. The health crisis unfortunately prevented the concert from taking place.
At the end of this first edition, children who wanted to continue learning music after the three-year session were able to keep their instrument and were supported on their new, individual learning path. Over 40% of the children continued to study their instrument at the conservatory.
